I can answer those things:

Spoiler for SPOILERS:

-I don't know why, but I teared up during the part where you have to keep walking east in the dark. It was just so beautiful. I got emotional for a similar hard-to-describe reason that the Dark Palace in Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds made me get emotional.

Quote from: supershigi
-It looks like there are spaces for 4 more items... Is there still more to do?
The last 5 items aren't obtainable, I had plans for like 2-3 more areas like a snowy village and a junkyard. The
last five items were: Aussie Gloves to walk on spikes, Fire Extinguisher (self explanatory), Ship In A Bottle to turn you small,
Pink Dye to change your hair color and The Brain, which let you read people's minds.

Quote from: supershigi
-What was the heart for? I tried using it on those straw yoga mat looking things, but I couldn't seem to get anything to happen.
The Heart was originally an item that restored your health in exchange for energy, but I ended up scrapping the health and
simple DQ style battle system. I kept it in because I like the idea of items that don't have a use.

Quote from: supershigi
-Besides being the most awesome and funny thing, was there anything else I was supposed to do with the Backpack?
The backpack was originally for a puzzle where a ghost would chase you until you looked at it, and the only way past was
to have eyes both in front and behind you, so you had to use the leeble. He was also going to be used to place eggs
on switches to keep them held down, but I couldn't end up getting that to work very well without tons of bugs.

Quote from: supershigi
-The part where you play the fiddle and the giant tiger comes out and goes to sleep, that was so cute and weird, I loved it.

Quote from: supershigi
-Flying felt really nice.
I think flying was the item I spent the most time on, and it originally was much more complex. It would drain
energy while flying, not just when initially using it - and you could fall into holes if you ran out of energy. It
worked okay, but it kinda turned the mellow vibe into rushing around.

Quote from: supershigi
-Are there any other things you can do with the items that I missed? Does the Scythe do anything in particular?
Scythe can kills spiders and cut grass without wasting any resources (kinda useless). It was originally supposed to
open up a new area, but that's about where I ran out of time. (Did you notice it shows up in real life after you beat
the game?)

Quote from: supershigi
-Did I spell "scythe" correctly?
Yes, I think so!

Quote from: supershigi
-Items SO CREATIVE!! The doggie coming out to dig, communicating with pumpkins, etc.
Both of those things were in my Bad Eggs Game Jam from Spongen!  :broomB:

Quote from: supershigi
I honestly can't believe you made this in a month...
I had so much more planned!

@P. Yoshi: I didn't realize at first that I had a limited amount of baseballs... I stupidly started throwing them willy-nilly, then saw that my number was counting down haha! I have about 16 left (after using 2 to do non-stupid things); will I need to start from an earlier save file now that I've wasted some, or do you think it should be sufficient to still get through the game? I'm absolutely loving the atmosphere of the game so far, so much love has been put into all the details from the UI to the animations to the sound design.

I think it would be a pretty crummy game if wasting 2 baseballs would make it unbeatable. Don't worry, consumables respawn.   :broomB:

Okay, here we go, I hope I didn't miss any:

"Love, Hate & Spiders" by nicktendowii:
The web mechanic reminds me a bit of umihara kawase. I think if you had more
time, it could be a really cool game. I don't know why I was so determined to beat it,
but I really tried! Oh, and the music was great!

"Junko" by P. Yoshi:
Too weird. Got lost. Didn't like it.

"Captain Sun vs The Forces of Negativity" by kreyg:
I think I died like 4 times before making it above 100 points, eventually
I got to like 2000. That's something. I'd say the game was pretty hard to
start, but I won't say that, because I like that. The music was great, too,
zap that negativity!

"Anime Dream Girl" by Alzar:
I played through it with a friend and it was thoroghly entertaining. You got Takeshi's
wolf howl, Sidion's amazing song. (I mean, clearly, there is not way the player
character could beat that.) I typically don't find RM games very humorous, but
this game was great. I should mention the music, too, the music was fantastic!

"A Tale Of Two Sisters" by Average Potato:
The look reminds me of old DOS shareware games, I think any game that has original
graphics will always get a good mark from me. The best part was the giant penguin,

"Angela's Blind Smile" by EN.I:
I didn't get very far, I'm sorry! The concept is unique and actually very
interesting, but the text-to-speech and broken english just made it kinda grating.
The fact that it's a text adventure connecting to the internet makes me, I don't
know how to put this, a little uncomfortable?

Reading the readme was very cool, though, seeing your process was very informative!

"Love Less" by EL:
This appears to be a physical game, so I can't really comment on it without
playing it. I might give it a shot in the future!

"Love and Hate" by Unnamed:
I think I beat it in about 10 seconds. I assume that's it? The mechanic is
pretty good, though, and with enough time and polish I think it could really
be something special.

"Spider Dating Sim" by Orison the Owlet:
If you want to talk about million dollar ideas, the world needs a Spider Dating Sim.
The spider pics are totally cute, and the scanned backgrounds and music are...
weirdly charming.

"Spider Trail" By orochii:
I just wanted to say I was looking forward to this game more than any other, and I'm
sad it didn't get a playable demo. (Finish it, please!)

Closing thoughts...

Hey, great work everyone! If you worked on the Jam this year, give yourself a pat on the back!

That umbrella-sunflower looks so cute! (reminds me of a certain dream diary).

You're good!

It's another wednesday and I still don't have a title. (please help)

Progress-wise, I have 20 items done and animated - I have room for more, but I think I'm going to leave it there. The exteriors are mostly done, while I wanted to parallax map all the interiors, I don't think there's enough time. Realistically all I need to do now is finish the interiors and make some "dungeon" areas. I completed so much this week, but I don't have much to comment on, so have some screenshots I was too lazy to crop!

Well, it's been a week. I still don't have a name yet, but I have been putting a lot of work in. Let's talk about the UI.

This is the UI I made for Dreamer's Crown, based on the original Zelda UI. I really liked the look of it, but the size it took up on the screen was really distracting, and I had to modify a lot of the base scripts to make it work. For this Game Jam game, I wanted something smaller, obviously, but i still wanted something showing off all the fun UI elements, so I came up with this concept.

ASMODEUS (Original)

Initially, I liked it. It showed off the item appearance and had enough space to show item quantity, keys and buttons. After playing with it for a bit, I really wanted something smaller. I mean, you really don't need to see how many keys you have at all times, right?

ASMODEUS (Revised)

This is what I ended up with, a 16px bar to show only important info. I might play around with the spacing, but for now I'm satisfied with it.

Weird. I was just writing notes for an Oregon Trail styled text game...

...but anyway, this looks awesome! I love the lo-fi look, especially the character, and I love the idea, too. I realize it's still in early development, but that is a lot of different fonts - and not all of them are easily readable.

That's a great sprite you've got there! I'm sure I've commended your work before, but I'll do so again - really good character design. I'm looking forward to seeing it contextualised in a story once it's more concrete :)
Thanks! I honestly don't think there is going to be much of a story, though - but we'll see!

Quote from: supershigi
I'm sad we still don't have language support on the forums - I had asked Reives about it years back, and I forgot the reason it was never implemented. I think he said he'd look into it, but I don't know what happened. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do it myself. I'll try to ping him again, but he's pretty busy these days.
The custom languages worked when I used "preview post", but after I hit send everything became "????????".

"Asmodeus" was just a working title anyway.

Quote from: supershigi
But as for your game... I'm really excited to see what you come up with. You're always so good at atmosphere, and I'm craving that right now! It's been really fun seeing your sprite style evolve over the years. The latest one is so unique and charming, it looks great! I'll be checking back frequently to see any progress updates^^
Aw, thanks Shigisaurus. I'll try to update every Wednesday this month!

Quote from: orochii
I think you chose my favourite style from the ones you show (RMXP's RTP ftw however, looseleaf's always looks weird, and props for at least editing RMVX/Ace RTP style since most people use RTP as they come from the box).
Good eye, you certainly know your stuff!

Quote from: orochii
Anyway, I like what you do with your scenery. Really like the textures and detailing you achieve. It looks very nice. Unrelated note, but I don't know why that green reminds me of Metal Gear from NES. Actually this is more of an actual question, are you using some pallete in specific? IDK why but those colors look so much like from the NES pallete.

I'm using the "Photoshop Elements 2 - Windows PC Compatible 256 Color Palette", but I still cheat and add shades I need.

Quote from: orochii
Speaking of color, my only complaint with the new style and coloring is that some shades seem to be lost a little, get too dark or something and look pretty much black, I guess you're using screen tinting or something.

Yeah, I'm using screen tinting (It doesn't look as good, but it's way quicker than trying to get everything to match). For Hoaxer's I was trying to limit myself to 2 shades per color, and like 3 colors per object. For this project I'm just trying to make it grittier without caring too much about restrictions.

(A Bunch Of Glyphs In Hebrew That Don't Show Up On The Leeble Forum Apparently: The Game)
(Asmodeus - Working Title)
P. Yoshi

I'm not sure where to start, so I'll start with character designs.

These are some designs from my previous games, from The Silver Pin Club onward I started making my own sprites from scratch - instead of using RTP or frankensprites.

When making the main character sprite, I experimented with using a base model from a previous game to save time. I ended up using the Hoaxer's Lot style, but for the design I was hoping for it was a bit too clean, so I dirtied it up a bit and added more shades. Here's an example of the clean look of Hoaxer's next to [Hebrew Glyphs].

I'll be trying to update this post when I have more to show with gameplay and story.

I nominate ":broomB:" as a theme.
