(CANCELED) Spring Valley [TP´s Homemade Jam Thread]
« on: April 01, 2015, 09:28:24 AM »
I have decided on a Dungeon Crawler using Löve2d as the game engine.
I´ll keep the little bit of Story I have planned so far a secret for now.

First screenshot of early dungeon generation:
Spoiler for Hiden:

Lighting, Rendering & Fireball Entitys:
Spoiler for Hiden:

If anyone is interested in the algorithm I developed to generate the Dungeon let me know.

Oh man!! I know this is just a preliminary screenshot, but it totally brought me back to my childhood! My sisters and I would play dungeon crawler shareware games that our dad gave us (he'd bring back floppy disks filled with games from his friends at work). I had so much fun with those, even though I was so little I didn't always know what was going on haha. Most of them had ASCII art :P

I would LOVE to play an old school dungeon crawler like this! Good luck!

Looks really interesting TP. I certainly am interested in the algorithm you have designed :3
I love me some algorithms, particular the graph oriented kind.

Almost feeling like creating my own dungeon crawler now.
*hugs*

Warning: This is not gonna be a classical dungeon Crawler... sry  :(

I implemented a first version of lighting with some placeholder textures:
Spoiler for Screenshot:

Not quite pleased with the look but its a start ;)

@Zeriab: I´ll try to make an animated gif explaining the algorithm when I´m back home tomorrow. Working off a laptop with just one screen is just not the same :(

I was also wanting to create a dungeon crawler for the jam. (I am making one as a college project.) Love2D looks awesome. I must try it! (Lua is cool.)

What is the dungeon generation algorithm based on? This reminds me of BSP-Trees.

Classical dungeon crawler or not, a crawl is a crawl is a crawl is a crawl, and I'm still looking forward to it.

Whoa, that last screenshot is playing tricks on my eyes. It's as if the darkness is morphing and the texture is moving underneath my flashlight...  :D

Thanks for keeping us updated :D
Good to see you managed what you set out for (as you said in IRC)
You should also post that very interesting physics picture you showed me.

Alright I´m pretty happy with how the walls look (Rounded edges and all):
Spoiler for Hiden:
Also I made everything a little brighter and tweaked the lighting shader a bit

Animation & maybe  a first try at a player character up next  :D
I´m back.

Hey, I'm happy with how those look too~ I do think the slight tweaks do make it look better.

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Oooh, that's looking nice! I like the rounded edges, as well as the glow around the lights. Looking forward to seeing your character!
