The 2015 Leeble Jam Games!!
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:44:50 AM »

"Panky" and "Cora" Leeble portraits by the ever-talented naska (Emmy Toyonaga)

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 1st ever Leeble Game Jam~!! One month ago, folks from our community embarked on a mission to create small games based around the theme of "spring" (with the optional sub-theme of "being lost"). Many of these folks shared their experiences in the Dev Logs section, and helped one another out at the Leeble Academy. I had a wonderful time seeing people (both jammers and non-jammers) helping each other through supportive comments, giving advice, and working together to solve problems. I also enjoyed checking out the wonderful work that was shared throughout the month (and I vicariously lamented when I read about the hurdles)! All in all, I'm so so proud of you guys, and I want to say thank-you for participating in this event ^_^

So without further ado, here are the game submissions! Everyone is invited to check them out ^_^ You can find links to their dev journals inside the spoilers as well, in case you'd like to read more about what they did this month. I'm so excited to play through these in the coming week (and once I do, I will likely post again with some special awards)... and again... so proud of all of you. YEAHHHHHH!!!

EDIT: To play the rpg maker games, you may have to download the RTP:

(Select VX Ace for Strawberry's, and XP for Astra's.) (thanks Kan!)

The Games

thegoofromspace: "Springboard Garden"
Spoiler for Hiden:
About:
Springboard Garden is a Breakout-like game with a twist: you free plants from the blocks as you go, to click them at the right time and beat the levels. It's pretty far from complete, but pretty fun, too. One warning: the save system doesn't work with release builds for some reason, so you have to play through it all at once to see everything. See if you can beat all five levels!

Melaniipon: "The Sylvan Maid Astray"
Spoiler for Hiden:
About:
On the first day of spring, as early as dawn, the elven children of Mystwood wander around to gather as many freshly bloomed flowers as they can.

Despite her father's warnings, 14-year-old Sylphia does not stick close enough to the other elves in order to avoid getting lost--as she often does. Instead she trails behind, her mind unfocused on the task at hand. Only when she sees the motionless body of a rabbit off the trail does Sylphia suddenly move faster.

Taking a step next to the rabbit leaves her feeling light-headed and dizzy, causing her to fall unconscious.

Will the character be able to give the world some tasty chocolate? Or will vegetables be the dominant food? Only playing this game will you find out the answer! ^_^'

Deep Ocean Lights is a small ambient game that takes after Osmos and Flicky. Playing on the theme of being lost, you act as a guiding light leading small bioluminescent sea life up through the dark and dangerous depths, and into the light of the sun. You must shine brightly, to keep the little ones from being drawn away by other, more dangerous lights. Also, credits to Pongball (Shannon Mason) for the beautiful BGM~

Unnamed: Goaty Spring Fight!
Spoiler for Hiden:
About:

Instructions:

Collect eggs to be able to make little goats, then send them to battle in order to defeat the evil goat!
ARROWS to move, UP to jump, SPACE to make little goats.

Known issues:

Sometimes you have to click into the game to be able to control it.
On Windows systems (encountered with Firefox), the page may scroll when you control the game with SPACE and ARROWS. I plan to apply a fix for this issue. Until then, the workaround is to avoid Windows.

Tested to work fine with Mozilla Firefox under Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

No goats were harmed during production.
No drugs were consumed during production.

hahaha. i like the gif!

I LOVE Sprink! It's so much fun and I love the simple, but fun mechanics of it. I like that you get a perfect bonus for getting a collection of everything. I think my highest score so far is like 44,000. Whenever I was about to miss a platform or I missed one of the collectibles, i kept yelling "NOOOOOOOOOO!"

I started crafting up a little garden in Waking Spring. I like how it starts off kind of slow and then the more you plant, the more you generate to plant more plants. I'll post a screenshot of what my garden is looking like so far.

Springboard Garden is oddly addicting and challenging! Whenever I missed clicking on a plant before it went away. The ever-popular "d'oh!" came out, haha.

Silver pins is super cute! I loved the way that the characters interact and the story that went along with it.

Zen Gardening is so challenging! I was sort of confused at first, then when I started getting it, i found it fun to try to outsmart the computer, but it ended up outsmarting me most of the time. hahahah.

Goaty spring fight! "You have been killed my evil goat." 'nuff said, hahaha. so awesome.

As for the games made with RPG maker (and charizard's game), it for whatever reason won't let the game play, so I'm unable to play them. Sorry about that! Good job to everyone that participated and I'm amazed to see what you guys were able to do in a month!

Wait what? Mine isn't working? Gosh dangit, it worked for my friend who was testing it right up until I sent it, and now it's not working for her either. Yet, it still works for me.

Can anyone ELSE run it?

Odd, it was the sound causing issues for some people. I had to comment out the music and the sound effects to get it to work. For now I've uploaded the soundless version.

But the fact that it's working for some people means it's probably some dependency issue. I wonder what it could be? I'll do some digging.

OK, I finally played through everything!

I'm so proud of everyone who participated - making a game is a lot of work, and we have so many different creations, it's really great!

Springboard Garden:  That was pretty fun - that you have to click flowers with the same cursor that's controlling the paddle makes it very challenging, I kept getting out of position!

Zen Gardening:  First time playing, I didn't realize you needed to get *5* in a row.  After I figured that out, it all made a lot more sense!  Nicely done!  :)

Waking Spring:  Ooh, it's like Cookie Clicker, but without the carpal tunnel!  Sweet!  :)  It was pretty cool working my way up to my first Tortoise!

The Sylvan Maid Astray:  Congrats on getting a game out!  On the second play through, I was wandering around and discovered all of the fairies dancing in a circle, I had a lot of fun getting in their way!  :)  The scripted sequences were nicely done!

Fable of Life Giving Chocolate:  I have entered the mind of Astra... oh my.  That was... completely nutty.  :)  Big congrats on your first game, that was an impressive first effort!  The maze was really well done!

Deep Ocean Lights:  Mmm glowy particles.  :)  The fluid motion of everything looks really nice, and the behavior of the little ones is fun, though I tend to keep sending them flying in all directions.  :)

Goaty Spring Fight:  A medium goat shooting a big evil goat with a bunch of little goats... I guess everything is better with goats!  :)  LOL

The Silver Pin Club:  There's so much going on in here, so much stuff is interactive, fun conversations... it's a really great start, the only problem is it ends all too soon!

I really enjoyed doing this game jam, I hope you all enjoyed it too!  There was so much creativity, even with games that didn't get done, hopefully we can do this again!

Congrats to everyone who participated, and to everyone who submitted a game!

THEGOOFROMSPACE - "Springboard Garden"
Couldn't get it to work, it just sits on the intro text and nothing seems to make it move.
Judging from the screenshots though, I love the simplistic style.

BEN - "Zen Gardening"
I don't really have much to say, just that the atmosphere is very Zen,
but I just don't quite understand the scoring system. (I think it might
be a bug that you can get the score very high by digging two empty spaces)
It's a fun little game in its own way.

TP - "Walking Spring"
Relaxation in game form! Though there isn't much to do there, it's
still very impressive that it was made in such a short time. I can see great
potential though, keeping it minimized trying to save up for the tortoise is
pretty novel in its own right.

KREYG - "Sprink"
Sprink was a lot of fun, even though for some reason the kept automatically
moving my spring to the left. (I kinda liked that, it made it so I could
control the entire game with just the right button my controller) I especially
loved how the height of the clouds was the perfect jumping distance if you wanted
to keep springing up without stopping to hop. All in all a really fun little game with a lot of heart.

MELANIIPON - "The Sylvan Maid Astray"
The graphics and art are undeniably cute, and I'm always partial to playing
a character wandering around lost in the woods. Their isn't much gameplay, but
I'd still say it's an enjoyable experience. (I was disappointed it was only one
level, it looks like you got the framework done to make quite a few!)

Oh, and I just thought you should know that in VX and VX Ace you can make a
"Fonts" folder next to Graphics, Audio, etc. and the game will use that font when you
play it - so you won't have to make people install it.

ASTRAGOTH - "Fable Of Life-Giving Chocolate"
What can I say? It's very Astragoth, the dialogue is the perfect sort of
Astra-kookiness. The mapping is quite good, especially for a first game.
We also need to get in talks about Bob the blob showing up as a character in NOTS.

CHARYBDIZS - "Deep Ocean Lights"
This game is absolutely beautiful, it's like playing a painting. With the lights off and
headphones on it's quite an experience. (though it is incredibly jarring to be sent back
to the desktop abruptly after dying.) As for gameplay, it works, the controls as simple
as they are took me a bit to really grasp, holding down the button makes them all gravitate
around you, but if you move even slightly they all run off in different direction - though I
guess that's the challenge of it.

UNNAMED - "Goaty Spring Fight!"
I was killed by an evil goat.
