Visit to Microsoft Campus
« on: February 18, 2012, 12:59:37 AM »
I'm in Redmond training for a few weeks, so I thought I'd put up some pictures of the Microsoft Campus while I'm here.  Needless to say I'm impressed by the culture and the location.  Without further ado, here are some pictures (sorry for the low resolution):

-This is the plaza in the Commons, basically the center of campus (Keep in mind the place is HUGE)

-This is inside the commons, which is a cafeteria + mini mall.  For example:

-This is a biking/outdoors shop in the Commons.

I decided to grab some lunch there :)

At the building I was meeting, they had Surfaces, basically coffee-table sized touch-screens.  This one is displaying a stream of twitter feeds, which you can "pull off' individually and read :)  Really cool

-Free sodas :)

The building next door is actually the Xbox studios.  They had some interesting things:

-A life size statue of the characters from Halo: Reach.  (These statues are at least 6" tall!  The biggest one "Jorge" is over 7" tall)

-a close-up of one of the character's (Kat's) cybernetic arm

I'll be exploring more around the Seattle area as well, so I'll upload more updates here!

Thank-you for sharing these pictures Davixus!  I SO want to jump in that fountain, haha :P I love when companies have lively and interesting campuses, it makes working there so much more enjoyable.  Are you working there full-time now, or is it an internship?

I'm working full time for Microsoft  :)

And what do you actually do there? Software development, or something else?

Beware with multinational companies, though! I also work for one of the largest ones, and I thought it will be totally awesome, but I was entirely disappointed. Though at least they pay me for not-working - quite fair. :P

Microsoft might be different, though. I'll ask you 6-9 months later about your experiences. :)

Mmm interesting, but that's kinda all from me. I'm one of those Linux/Google hybrids so I am merely observing. Though it's an interesting experience, dat true. :)

... *Googles* So there actually is a Chrome OS?  And here I thought someone just hadn't done their research to see that it was a browser...

But yeah, I'm mostly a Mac user.  I mostly use Windows here and there for compatibility reasons (lately particularly for my classes), but as an OS I prefer Ubuntu (Linux) over Windows. ^_^;

See if they have a suggestion box for ways to improve their products. ;) *brick'd* X3

^Actually same for me with OSes.

As of Chrome OS last time I heard about it it was somewhere midway between alpha and beta testing.

Oh and yes if you find one May I send you a few suggestions? ^^

I'm an Account Manager-I basically manage support resources for the client (US government).  I'm a little daunted by the task  -_-

Actually, if you own a supported Microsoft product (within 5 years of release), you can suggest changes.  Assuming they are reasonable (eg not "I want my computer to make donuts") and enough people agree, Microsoft will code that change up and push it out in their next patch.  They call it "Product Change Request".  You can send suggestions here:

Meanwhile last week was pretty exciting, and I got some more photos of the campus and some of Seattle as well.  Enjoy! :)

Thank-you for resizing those Davixus, they're much easier to see now (I had opened the links in a new tab before to be able to see the whole photo at once).  What a nice looking campus!  I don't know why, but I really like the elephant statue^^  And the tablet tables (not sure the name) seem really fun to use.

Have you been to Pike Place yet?  Mmm... just thinking about it is making me hungry for their smoked salmon, hehe :P

Mufufu. Nice photos. Is it the right Spock from TOS or the wrong Spock from that new Star Trek movie? o.O

It looks like the original Spock. See, Kirk is also there. :)
Anyway, I didn't have problems with the new Spock from the XXI. movie either.

I did. He was such an ass and some of his decisions were illogical.

Actually I was always more of a crew person than Capitan.
